And then there was only "ONE"

Recently there was a meeting concerning TVA and Lake Levels in Swain County, at the Fine Arts Center. At that meeting people talked about Fontana Lake Levels and a 1.5 million dollars increase in Swain County's economy which was trown away this year. Evidentally TVA has done a study to show a 1.5 million dollar boost to Swain County's economy with a 30 day longer summer lake level, which we are now being denied.
I attended this meeting where over 150 people attended and voiced their opinion on how TVA was drawing down Fontana Lake, There were other Elected Officials from other Counties, as well representatives from Senator Burr, Senator Dole, and Congressman Shuler offices. My question is why was there only ONE Swain County Commissioner there? With this kind of potential revenue being taken from Swain County's economy shouldn't we as a county have not been better represented? Were they busy? sick? or just didn't care?
Thanks, Mr. Monteith for your interest in Swain County.

WHERE WERE THE OTHERS?

THERE ARE IS A TOTAL OF FIVE, RIGHT!

At the 29 Oct 07 meeting of regional caring citizens of the low Fontana Lake level, which have had a tragic and averse impact on bussinesses and economics.
The true, core individuals that have care, concern, and economic growth for Swain County are not to make a personal appearence in public to voice their outrage of the pillage of their community once again by the big bad government agencies of the likes of TVA and the National Park Service. These people represented a cross section of all political arenas and interests. At the meeting, as I looked around the auditorium, I did NOT see all of those Swain County commissioners in attendence,or the Chairman of the County Commissioners, nor, did I see ANY of the Town Board of Aldermen, the mayor, and NONE of the canidiates for Aldermen's or Mayorial races. Being elected officials to represent the interests of the citizens of their community, one would think that they would have the "common courtesy" to attend a meeting of the U.S. Senators' office representives, and the 11th Congressional Representive staff members, just to let them know that they do appreciate them taking the time to make a visit to our community, our town, our county. I ask my fellow citizens of Swain County, just where is the mind set here? Do you want to keep living in a void? As it appears you do, or you wouldn't be so party rigid as to keep putting these "jesters and jokers" back in office term after term, and then wonder "why doesn't it get better around here?". I got another observation here, that wonderful group, "Citizens for the Economic Future of Swain County", just where are they at in this picture? To be so vocal about Swain County's economic future, they sure do know how to hide under a chair when they had a "golden opportunity" to step forward and be vocal to representatives of government about the plight of Swain County. I would imagine that the individuals that are eyeing the montarial settlement as the "manna" that is here to be the saving grace, and they spend their time like Midas, counting his gold, they are calcuating the interest that 'could' be made on the money, if it ever got here. My conviction is like what my work ethic was, "be part of the solution, not, part of the problem". In my current view of the situation, it appears, that individuals have become, apathetic, uncaring, use the excuse that politics should not be involved, and have seen it done for one way for so long, believe now, that is the "only way". Change can only occur, when individuals are willing to take a risk, a risk to make it better, could be worse, maybe, but, when you're layinig on your back, the only place you can look, is UP.

Also, of the 4 candidates running for US House of Representatives, only Dr. Carl Mumpower showed up to listen to the people. And remember what Heath Shuler said at his private, invitation only meeting regarding lake levels, "Pray for rain, folks." What a joke. He is just another Tennessee Rep. When I vote, I will vote for the people I see active in the community, and the ones who listen to the people, and not just on this issue.

what deal has been done?

"Let it go, the deal has been done".
Just another example of those that are part of the closet "machine". They continually use barnyard politics to make and cut underdeals that are only in the interest of a few and are of their own. But, they are always the first to point out about "special interests" and how they are unfair. In their twisted opinion of the world of "politics" it is viewed as "their way" is the "only way". The reason for the two party system is a very simple and straight forward; without it, you would have a "dictatorship". By having the second party, it provides for checks and balances to a "radical party objectives" organization. With the "deal has been done" attitude it should cause the public to wonder why thier voice isn't being heard? Could it be they are doing a lot of talk and very little voting. At the polls, is where the people's voice shall be heard.
